As a key contributor to the user experience at Samsung, I designed and delivered the UI (User Interface) and VUI (Voice User Interface) for S-Voice, a feature integrated directly into the Samsung Galaxy S6 mobile phone and extending its reach to wearables like the Gear S2 Smartwatch and Level U Wireless headphones. My work on S-Voice wasn't just about creating interfaces; it was about empowering users with seamless hands-free control over their devices, making technology more accessible and convenient in their daily lives.
By carefully crafting the visual elements and the voice interaction flows, I aimed to make it intuitive for users to perform essential tasks simply by speaking. This included the fundamental actions of making phone calls, sending emails or text messages, effortlessly searching the vastness of the internet, and even quickly updating their social presence on Facebook. My focus was on reducing friction and enabling users to stay connected and productive, regardless of their immediate situation.
The impact of S-Voice was significant. It provided a crucial layer of accessibility, allowing users to interact with their devices when their hands were occupied or when direct touch wasn't convenient. It streamlined everyday tasks, saving users time and effort. By extending this voice-powered functionality across multiple device types – from the primary smartphone to wearable accessories – we created a more cohesive and integrated user experience within the Samsung ecosystem. My contribution to S-Voice directly enhanced the usability and convenience of these widely adopted devices, making a tangible difference in how people interacted with their technology.
