Driven by a passion for empowering student success, I focused on designing a solution that would equip Student Success Analysts with the tools they need to truly understand and support their students. My aim was to move beyond generic approaches and create a platform that enables the building of targeted student cohorts, the identification of crucial trends, and ultimately the delivery of personalized educational experiences tailored to each student's unique journey.
The core of this solution is a comprehensive Student 'Groups' Management Dashboard. This isn't just a static overview; it's a dynamic hub designed to facilitate in-depth analytics and provide actionable insights. To enable this, I designed intuitive 'Select Cards' and 'Condition Filters.' What's powerful about these isn't just their ease of use, but the fact that they intelligently generate underlying SQL queries. This allows analysts, even without deep technical expertise, to ask complex questions of the student data and create highly specific cohorts based on a wide range of criteria.
My process was deeply rooted in understanding the needs of the end-users. I spearheaded user research efforts and personally moderated Design Thinking Workshops with key stakeholders at San Francisco State University and the University of Kentucky. These immersive sessions in real educational environments were invaluable in uncovering the specific challenges and opportunities faced by Student Success Analysts. By directly engaging with these professionals, I gained a profound understanding of their workflows and pain points, ensuring the solution I designed would directly address their critical needs. My collaboration extended to SAP Palo Alto, leveraging their expertise and resources to bring this vision to life across two distinct applications.
The impact of this work is highlighted in news articles from EdScoop and SAP News, showcasing how institutions like UC San Diego are leveraging data-rich platforms to revolutionize student success. A blog article further emphasizes the potential of such solutions to support struggling students. My contribution to this initiative was driven by the belief that by providing Student Success Analysts with the right tools and insights, we can collectively create a more supportive and effective educational ecosystem, ultimately leading to better outcomes for every student
